Microsoft Office – A product that has been part of growing up. I have such good memories of using Word, Excel and PowerPoint for business and private purposes.
As part of the move to Digital Sovereignty, I switched to LibreOffice for Desktop use and Collabora Online for Mobile use.
It takes a while to get used to Writer, Calc and Impress.
Two things which made the move easier for me on Windows Desktop:
- Associate Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint files to be opened by the counterparts in the LibreOffice world namely LibreOffice Writer, LibreOffice Calc and LibreOffice Impress.
- Save the files in the open Microsoft Office formats (docx, xlsx and pptx). This ensures interoperability with friends and colleagues using Microsoft Office.
I now save my files in the Nextcloud Files. The Nextcloud Files open the files using Collabora Online which provides a subset of the LibreOffice features to be used on the browser. If you want to edit and make many changes, the desktop experience is much better.
